HM Blog
Hi
My name is Hadley.
I live in Washington DC in the ~3rd smallest/cutest house in the country.
I love to cook, the new york yankees, and reading about princesses.
Today has already been productive
no contacts in the wedding - the whole look will be off without the green slime glasses!
Woke up at 8:30.
Went to a spin class with my mom.
I got a new phone that can send pictures again (bought with my vimeo money. Stressful but important purchase)
Made lunch.
Got contacts at the eye doctor for “special occasions” and looked at some new frames as my old ones are too heavy on my nose and giving me a headache.
Went to the Redskin’s/Bills pre-season game this weekend. Saw what might be the highpoint of the Bills’s season - recovering a fumble on the kick off return. Nice new helmets though.
The nfl though seems to be yet another place for me to go and feel disconnected and like a tourist in america. Patrick and I were so out of place tailgating behind our mini surrounded by the last 50,000 suv owners in the country. I did make potato salad though - that’s very tailgate.
olympics
“she’s breathin now! when was the last time you played all out badminton for over an hour?”
and Indonesia takes the match!
i love the olympics
New Job
Over the last few weeks I’ve been talking to my various bosses about the possibility of a new position leading one of our smaller membership programs. It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity - running a P&L and a whole team - owning 1.3M$ in revenue. Really, it’s something I assumed was years and an MBA away. A lot of pieces had to fall into place - 1) the role had to open up, 2) they had to choose me for the role, and 3) I had to accept. Today I get an email from some anonymous central person about the agenda writing process (don’t ask)- “Matt says you’ll be heading up this process for ISR.” I guess I accepted?NYY
It’s wierd how much hasn’t changed over the last 10 years of watching the yankees. (this is my 10th anniversary season) Heading into the second half with all our hopes on Mike Mussina, Andy Pettite, and Mariano. The only disorienting thing is that team called the “rays” at the top of the standings. Maybe it was the word “devil” and those horrible old uniforms holding them back all this time. Apparently I analyze baseball like Katie picks horses - colors and names.Unpopular Opinion
Just saw Dark Knight and I have to go with “good”. Heath was great - scary, very scary. But the movie? good. I will say “long” too. Very long.First Real Post
First thing to do is explain the title of this little project. I’m getting married in January and have been struggling with whether or not the change my name. It’s wierd how many people ask you what you’re going to do about that. They look at you, raise their eyebrows a little and say, “what about your name? would you ever really change it?” Not changing it is definately becoming the norm around here. Even people I thought would be totally pro-tradition are rejecting that particular nugget.
So anyway, I’m struggling with that - giving up my HH and going to a dull, non-aliterative HM. Then on a recent business trip to London (I tacked on a couple extra days to wonder around on my own because it’s the best activity) I begin to notice - HM Revenue, HM Customs, HM Post…hmmm. Who or what is the HM? Can I chat to them about the quality of life with those initials? Then I remember. HM = Her Majesty.
I’m not going to lie. I feel better about the whole thing.
Take it Back
Over the last several days, I’ve thought to myself “I should blog that.”, but then I don’t. I think this blog mindset will take some time.Last but not least
After much pressure from my blog-happy family, I am starting one of my own.
so far so good
